Black Dog Gelato stands in solidarity with the Asian American and Pacific Islander community.
We are teaming up with restaurants across the country on the #doughsomething fundraising campaign to support Asian Americans Advancing Justice, an affiliation of leading organizations that advocate for the civil and human rights of Asian Americans and other underserved communities to promote a fair and equitable society for all.
A Message from Chef Jessie
If you didn’t grow up with me, you may not know that I am not actually Italian. It was my love for gelato, not my heritage, that was my motivation in creating Black Dog Gelato. I am half Filipino – my dad is first-generation Filipino-American. The picture is me with my brother, cousins, and grandparents (I’m the serious one in the back with the sweet green shirt and matching headband).
The increase in anti-Asian discrimination, including the violent attacks on Asian women in the last month, have me reflecting on the struggles of my dad, aunts, uncle and grandparents as they grew up on the westside of Chicago. There is no excuse for such hate and we need to do better to protect our loved ones, our neighbors, our communities, and fellow humans.
I invite you to join Black Dog Gelato in the #doughsomething fundraising campaign to support Asian Americans Advancing Justice
