Bananas Foster

Pair this classic dessert with either the Chai Love, Goat Cheese Cashew Caramel, or Dairy Free Sunflower Gelato.
Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp. unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup lightly packed dark brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. kosher salt
- 2 Tbsp. banana liqueur (can substitute with dark rum or bourbon)
- 2 firm bananas, peeled. halved lengthwise and crosswise
- 2 Tbsp. dark rum or bourbon
- 1 tsp. heavy cream
- 1 pint of gelato
DIRECTIONS
Step 1
In a heavy skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cook for about 1 minute or until all of the sugar is saturated with the butter.
STEP 2
Slowly add the banana liqueur and cook while stirring until all the sugar has dissolved and the mixture has started to bubble (about 1-2 minutes).
STEP 3
Gently place the bananas into the skillet and cook until they begin to soften (about 2-3 minutes).
STEP 4
Flip the bananas over to their other side and carefully stir in the rum. Continue to cook until the mixture starts to bubble and then ignite the rum using a stick lighter or by slightly tilting the pan to catch the burner flame. Gently shake the pan until the flame dies out. Stir in the heavy cream and cook until it begins to bubble again. Remove from the heat.
STEP 5
Place 2 to 3 pieces of the bananas in a bowl, top with gelato, and spoon the sauce over the bananas. Serve immediately.
